Who we are

Nederlanders in den Vreemde translates as The Dutch in Foreign Parts. It consists of a collective of Dutch people or of Dutch heritage who have an interest in the well being of Dutch and their families abroad.
Our website address is: https://www.nederlanders-in-den-vreemde.org. The server is based in the USA, the registered address is in China, while the administrators and content providers are in Australia, United Kingdom and in other countries.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Newsletter Subscription

When visitors subscribe to our newsletter we collect your email address in order to send newsletters to you. We also collect your name and some other details which relate to your (Dutch) nationality. This information is only used for targeted newsletters and we do not share this with any third party. We may share your information with third parties if we discuss this directly with you, you request us to do so, and you give us permission to do so. At any time you can visit the Newsletter Profile page and see what information you have supplied, update, remove or unsubscribe from the newsletter. You can find a link to your Newsletter Profile page in the subscription confirmation email or in a newsletter. The newsletter is a service to keep you informed and does not provide any form of legal agreement between us and the recipient, no rights are derived from signing up or receiving our newsletters. The information in a newsletter may be targeted to you but could still not be applicable to you. Warning newsletters may or may not be accurately targeted to you. You will need to verify if the information is indeed correct and applicable to you. When signing up for a newsletter the website/system may use cookies and register your IP address.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. We advise against leaving personal identifiable information in public comments. Where you do decide to leave a comment with personal identifiable or otherwise sensitive information this is at your own risk.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact forms

When you contact us through the contact form we will use the details you submitted to reply. Messages are saved securely. However, we advise you not to send us sensitive or confidential information unnecessarily. While we will protect your information within our abilities, we are not professional website or system programmers and we consider that passing on your information online is never as secure as in person. Where you do decide to send us personal identifiable or otherwise sensitive information this is at your own risk.

Cookies

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

Where we diagnose or are informed of a data breach we will close down the website and databases until the host company has investigated, if needed made fixes, and we are given the all clear to resume.
