Nederlands in den Vreemde is a historical term and loosely translates as the Dutch in Foreign Parts. We are there for anyone who lives abroad (outside of the Netherlands) or has a relationship/link between the Netherlands and other countries. Work, living, vacations, familie, etc. And of course also for those returning/moving to the Netherlands. If you have questions about the Dutch nationality check out our self-help information pages. Do you want to stay up to date? Then have a look at our personal Dutch nationality newsletter. For (proposed) changes to the Dutch nationality law and practical advise see our latest news.

We apologise, but not many pages have been translated into English. For now please use Google Translate, click here. And yes, we welcome volunteers who can help translate from Dutch to English, or any other language, contact us. Be careful with Google Translate as legal text may not be translated correctly. Always use the info as guidance and verify before you take action.

Amongst others we give specialist advice to Dutch citizens, former Dutch citizens, lawyers and politicians with respect to the Dutch nationality laws. We support a human and morally just policy where nationality isn’t taken away automatically, lost automatically without the person’s intent or realisation. If you ever had to deal with the old Dutch nationality law (Wet op het Nederlanderschap en het ingezetenschap, WNI) or current law (Rijkswet op het Nederlanderschap, RWN), or want to know more about potential future changes to the nationality law, we are here for you.

To grow as an organisation and in order to help others we can use your support. Maybe you can help us or make a donation. We thank you!
